Voice In has to insert transcribed text into the webpage. For this it uses two strategies (also called modes):
HTML mode is the default mode in Voice In. In this mode, Voice In modifies the underlying webpage text to insert the transcribed text. This works on many sites like in Gmail.
HTML mode however does not work on some sites like Facebook. On Facebook, your status message text can contain person mentions, hashtags, etc. For this reason, Facebook uses complex logic to handle text input and text display. This makes it impossible for Voice In in HTML mode to insert transcribed text.
To work around this issue, we developed Paste Mode. Paste Mode is only available with Voice In Plus.
In Paste mode, we use the clipboard to insert transcribed text. On dictation, the transcribed text is copied to browser clipboard. We then simulate a paste event to paste the clipboard text at the cursor location. Paste mode handles punctuations, voice commands and capitalizations similar to HTML Mode.
As a rule of thumb, use Paste mode only when Voice In does not work by default.
Paste mode enables dictation on many popular sites like twitter.com, web.skype.com, www.facebook.com, www.messenger.com, www.reddit.com, discord.com, web.whatsapp.com, keep.google.com, m.facebook.com, classroom.google.com, meet.google.com, www.youtube.com, www.carousell.com.hk, www.notion.so, docs.google.com, dictanote.co.
